Male & Female (Born Again)

A tender, gospel-anchored worship song for older kids and preteens (about ages 9-13), from the album "Love Not This World." God made us male and female by His good design (Genesis 1:27), and the change we really need is to be born again in Christ (John 3) — sung with dignity and compassion, never mockery, all the way to "Jesus saves."

Male & Female (Born Again) — Lyrics

Intro

Search me, O God... You knit me — I am fearfully, wonderfully made.

Verse 1

Lord, You knit me in the secret — every thread and every bone; You made the boy a boy, the girl a girl, and the design was Yours alone; no new name and no new frame can un-write what You have penned — I can't out-vote my Maker; what You made, You'll keep and mend.

Pre-Chorus

The world cries "change it, trade it" — but it's not a sound mind's way; and the "love" the world is selling is a lust that leads astray.

Chorus

He made the boy a boy, the girl a girl — and He called it good; you can't unmake your Maker — and oh, child, you never should; you don't need a different body... you need a brand-new heart — be born again in Jesus; in the dead His Holy Spirit to start. Jesus saves, Jesus saves — He wipes away the shame; so lay the old self down, and rise, and never be the same.

Verse 2

Let the men be strong and lowly, made to guard truth, not to fall; let the women as Proverbs 31, fearing God, kind and brave their call; guard your purity like treasure — sons and daughters, hold it dear; and every little life is precious, knit by God — so hold it near.

Pre-Chorus

Same purity, same mercy, for the daughter and the son; a pure and God-fearing heart, Lord — in us let it be done.

Bridge

You did not give a spirit of fear — but power, love, a sound mind; so the change you really need is trust Him and His design: don't pursue dead things you crave, child — hand Him your heart and be made new; "such were some of us... but washed" — He died and rose for you. The Seed of the woman, Jesus, came, born to break the curse — so come, be born again in Him; let faith, not flesh, be first.

Final Chorus

He made the boy a boy, the girl a girl — and He called it good; take the lie and take the shame, and make us new, as You would; not condemned, but beloved — born again, and washed, and free; Jesus saves, in Him is no shame... He's calling you and me! be born again in Jesus; in the dead His Holy Spirit to start. Jesus saves.

Outro

Born again... washed clean... and never the same; boys are boys and girls are girls — and Jesus saves... in Jesus' name.

Bible verse · Little lesson

A verse to hide in your heart

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
— Genesis 1:27 / John 3 (KJV)

Little lesson for little hearts

From the very first chapter of the Bible we hear it: "male and female created he them" (Genesis 1:27; Matthew 19:4) — and God called His design good. We were "fearfully and wonderfully made," knit by His hand in our mother's womb (Psalm 139:13-14), and we cannot out-vote our Maker. The world today is telling kids that the body is something to argue with, even something to remake — but Scripture gently answers that this is not "the spirit of a sound mind" God gives us (2 Timothy 1:7), and that the "love" the world is selling can be a lust that leads astray. Here's the freeing news: the change you really need is not a different body — it's a new heart. Jesus said, "Ye must be born again" (John 3:7), and Paul wrote, "if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature" (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Corinthians had lived in all kinds of sin, but Paul could say, "such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus" (1 Corinthians 6:11). That is the gospel: God's good design stands, His love is dignifying not mocking, and the rescue is real — Jesus saves. So we sing this song with compassion for every friend who is hurting, and with full confidence in the Seed of the woman who came to break the curse (Genesis 3:15; Galatians 4:4) and to make all things new.
