Let Your Light Shine

A sweet a cappella singalong of Matthew 5:16, written by Amanda Vaday, sung by a single clear child's voice. Let your light shine so others can see it, then they will see the good things you do — and it will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven. Short, gentle, and easy to memorize, it tucks the verse reference right into the melody.

Bible verse · Little lesson

A verse to hide in your heart

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

Little lesson for little hearts

Think about a little candle in a dark room. Even one small flame helps everyone see — and nobody lights a candle just to hide it under a basket; you set it up high so it gives light to the whole room. Jesus told us that we are like that light: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). What is our "light"? It is the kind, honest, loving way we live when Jesus is in our hearts — sharing, telling the truth, being gentle, helping others, forgiving. When people see those good things, something wonderful happens, and this is the most important part: it does not point to how great WE are. It points them to God. The verse says they will "glorify your Father which is in heaven" — that means they give the praise and thanks to Him. We do not shine to show off; we shine so people will see how good our Father is and want to know Him too. And we are only able to shine because Jesus is the real Light. He said, "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12), and His light lives in everyone who trusts Him. So this week, let your little light shine — be kind, be helpful, tell the truth, love others — and let it lead people to give glory to your Father in heaven.
