Crave Better
A driving worship song for older kids and preteens (about ages 9–13), from the album "Love Not This World." It takes the honest hunger of the heart — our cravings, which mirror who we are — and asks God to re-aim them: trade the heart of stone for a heart of flesh, and teach us to crave better. Not by willpower, but by His Spirit.

Crave Better — Lyrics
Verse 1
Search me, O God… and show me my own heart. I am not what I crave, but it mirrors who I am; so let me look, and not look away, heart behind the man — wash me in the blood and in the water of the Word. Let me not forget what I saw… and teach me to crave better, Lord.
Chorus
So teach me to crave better, Lord — make this whole heart new; the water shows the face, and my cravings show I'm untrue; the lie I hunger after only births the chain and shame — so turn my hunger, Father, till it hungers for Your name. I can't re-aim my own desire — ignite in knowledge a Holy Fire — make me crave You, Lord, crave You… I am held in Your hand.
Verse 2
You said You'd take the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh; so write Your law upon it, Lord, and make my wanting fresh; let me hunger, thirst for righteousness, and feast on what is true — the things I starved myself to chase were starving me from You. O taste and see that You are good — the real bread for the feast; the cravings of the world run dry, in You the famine's ceased.
Bridge
For I can't make myself want right — it's You who works in me, to will and want and walk Your way; abide, and set me free; so put to death the old desire, and grow the new instead — make me crave You, only You, Lord… by the Spirit, raise the dead.
Final Chorus
So teach us to crave better, Lord — make the sinner new; turn the hunger, take the shame, till it only hungers for You; we can't re-aim our own desire — ignite in knowledge a Holy Fire — make us crave You, Lord, crave You… we are held in Your hand.
Outro
Teach me to crave You… just loved, just washed, just Yours.
Bible verse · Little lesson
A verse to hide in your heart
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
Little lesson for little hearts
Our hearts are always hungry for something — and what we crave quietly tells us who we are. The gospel does not just say "want less"; it says God will re-aim our wanting. Looking into His Word is like looking in a mirror (James 1:23–25): it shows us the truth about ourselves so we will not "forget what manner of person" we are. The good news is that He promised, "A new heart also will I give you… I will take away the stony heart… and I will give you an heart of flesh" (Ezekiel 36:26). We cannot manufacture holy desire by willpower — "it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13). So we ask Him to turn our hunger, and we "taste and see that the LORD is good" (Psalm 34:8) — for the cravings of the world run dry, but Jesus is the Bread that truly fills (John 6:35). "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6).
