The Crazy Death Train

An animated Scripture worship song for older kids and preteens: the whole world is a train racing down the broad way at the speed of death — where the gold is only paint and the smiles are bought and sold — until a Voice like solid ground calls through the glass, "jump, whosoever will, and I'll catch you." Step off the runaway train of this world onto the solid, unchanging Rock, and let the world laugh "you're going backwards" — it's the world that is falling away, while you stand still on the One who never moves: Jesus Christ.

The Crazy Death Train — Lyrics

Intro

Whoo-whoo! Choo-choo! Come on, come aboard the crazy train! (And he followed all the people on…)

Verse 1

Everybody's on the train, and the windows gleam like gold — but the gold is only paint, and the smiles are bought and sold. The signs say "NEXT STOP: HAPPY!" then Rich… and Famous… Fun… — but the brakes are never pulled, and it stops at NONE!

Pre-Chorus

Then a Voice like solid ground came through the glass: "This crazy death train runs to Gehenna, and it's running fast. There is a way that seemeth right, but the end of it is death — so jump, whosoever will — I'll catch you!" One deep breath — JUMP! BOOM! Shot off the train like a cannonball — to the speed of standstill TRUTH!

Chorus

The world goes FULL SPEED TO DEATH! (whoosh!) They laugh: "You're going backwards!" (backwards!) No — I'm standing on the Rock: JESUS! — and the Rock won't move! (won't move!) Let the world rush by — the Rock stands firm FOREVER — and I'm never moving — NEVER!

Verse 2

My feet came down on solid stone — first time in all my life the ground beneath me held me strong, and told me not one lie. My friends pressed on the glass and laughed: "HA! You got left behind!" "I'm the only one not leaving — I have never felt so ALIVE!"

Pre-Chorus 2

Lies fly to stay ahead… but the Truth never has to run. In science class they call it relative motion. On the Rock we call it… FUN! (STANDING ON THE ROCK!)

Bridge

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof — but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. That Rock… that Rock is Christ.

The Plea

PLEASE — get off the crazy train! Jump! He'll catch you too! There's room out here on the Rock — He's waiting here for YOU!

Final Chorus

The world goes FULL SPEED TO DEATH! (whoosh!) They laugh: "You're going backwards!" (backwards!) No — I'm standing on the Rock: JESUS! — and the Rock won't move! (won't move!) JESUS CHRIST — the same yesterday, and today, and FOREVER! Let the world rush by — the Rock stands firm FOREVER — and I'm never moving — NEVER!

Outro

He said: "I will never leave thee." The Rock won't move.

Bible verse · Little lesson

A verse to hide in your heart

“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:4 (KJV)

Little lesson for little hearts

The Bible warns that "there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 14:12), and Jesus said the broad road is crowded but leads to destruction, while the narrow way leads to life (Matthew 7:13–14). This song pictures that broad road as a runaway train the whole world has boarded — but "the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever" (1 John 2:17). The good news is that we are not saved by jumping bravely on our own: a Voice calls through the glass and promises, "I'll catch you" — and He does, for it is the Lord who both launches and catches us (Colossians 1:13). When we come to Jesus we land on the Rock, and "that Rock was Christ" (1 Corinthians 10:4); He is "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever" (Hebrews 13:8), and He says, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5). To the racing world, standing still on Christ can look like going backwards — but it is the world that is speeding away toward death, and the child on the Rock is the only one truly standing. Build your house on the Rock (Matthew 7:24–25), and you shall never be moved.
